IHSFA State Debate Results

The PHS Debate Team narrowly missed a Top Ten finish at this year's IHSFA State Debate Tournament.

Bryt Hiatt followed up his district tournament with a hard luck draw.  In preliminary rounds, he went 4 and 2 with one loss coming on a really strange ballot and the other loss on a perfect score tie with the NE District Champion who went on to finish 2nd in the state.  His 4 and 2 record made him the 10th seed placing him against the 7th seed who had a 5-1 record.  The 7th seed happened to be our NW District Champion - Sean Tuttle - who Bryt lost to at districts.  (Sean's loss in prelims happened to be on a ballot signed by the same judge who gave Bryt his really strange loss on Friday.)  Ironically, Sean went on to win the State Championship.  In other words, Bryt's only losses (other than the strange ballot) came to the 1st and 2nd place speakers in the state.

The Congress team had an outstanding tournament with all four speakers advancing to the semi-state level and two of the four advancing to the Super Senate final round.
