Despite losing about one-third of the team to the Sweetheart Dance, the PHS Speech Team remained very competitive at the George Armstrong Invitational held at Bradley University last weekend. Mr. McKenzie and the other coaches respect the dedication of those who gave up the dance to make the trip to Peoria. Overall, the team placed 5th. (Ironically, the varsity team finished 4th and the novice team finished 4th.) In order to make up for the missed dance, the coaches gave several special awards based on various criterion. For instance, one varsity boy and girl as well as one novice boy and girl were elected to receive special awards based on who had the best story for giving up Sweetheart to attend Bradley.

Each recipient was awarded a special blue sash and a generous cash prize of slightly less than $2.00.
